Paula Keegan
Deputy Headteacher
St Katherine's C of E Primary School, Canvey Island
About Me
I have worked as a primary school teacher for 18 years and recently began my current teaching and leadership role at St Katherines C of E Primary School, as Deputy Headteacher. This role includes, leading Assessment and Mathematics.
Prior to this I worked at Brightside Primary School, for 7 years as Assistant Headteacher. This role included Senior Leader, Key Stage Coordinator and Mathematics Leader.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, I am continuously involved with identifying school priorities and establishing plans to develop and improve. Within this role I am proficient at analysing data to assess progress, recognising trends and identifying areas for development. I also lead CPD training sessions and carry out whole school monitoring. I have mentored student teachers and regularly worked alongside NQT’s. I have coached and supported colleagues during the Improving Teacher Programme and NPQML. I also facilitate performance management of staff, guiding them to set challenging targets in line with their professional development.
In my role of Assessment Leader, I have developed an extensive knowledge of target tracker, which I use to create reports and track vulnerable groups. I lead pupil progress meetings with class teachers and the SENCO, to identify focus pupils and develop strategies and interventions, to accelerate progress.
As Mathematics subject leader I have a competent knowledge of the teaching and learning of Maths, including the new curriculum and assessment. I have led a number of CPD training sessions for teachers and teaching assistants, including the introduction of assessing pupil progress, problem solving, higher order questioning and most recently the new Mathematics curriculum. I have also run workshops for parents.
In partnership with Essex, I worked for 2 years as a Primary Strategy Support Teacher. This involved coaching peers within another school. This led to an LCI accreditation in Primary Mathematics: overcoming barriers. As a result of this experience, I facilitated a closing the gap project, using a lesson study approach with middle leaders in my own school and across our teaching school alliance.
