Shanie Caldecott

Year Group Leader

Buttsbury Infant School, Billericay

About Me

I am an experienced teacher and have worked in EYFS for 11 years.  I currently hold the role of Year Group Leader and am a member of the Senior Leadership Team.  In this role I have implemented the new EYFS curriculum, increased assessment opportunities and parental involvement, led whole school meetings, carried out book, planning and marking scrutiny, analysed data termly, prepared data for county and identified pupils for targeted interventions.  Pupils consistently achieve results above the national average.

I have completed a middle leadership development programme (MLDP), including a gap analysis project to improve boys writing.  I have also coached a teacher through the programme and been involved in some joint facilitation of the programme.

I attend the Billericay Community Trust Foundation Stage teachers’ group.  This is a supportive group that has a primary focus of improving outcomes for BCT pupils by the sharing of effective practice.

I am experienced in teaching demonstration lessons in phonics for ITT students and staff from other schools.  I have worked effectively to support teaching assistants from an Essex school, particularly focusing on the development of the outdoor area.  I have also supported teachers from Essex schools to improve their indoor and outdoor environment and improve quality of teaching.  This was achieved through a well-planned supportive model of coaching and mentoring.  Actions undertaken included planning, assessment, the understanding of target tracker, preparation for moderation, effective use of the outside area and classroom layout.

I have been a mentor to ITT students, NQTs, early careers teachers and those new to the year group.  I have a strong relationship with feeder pre-schools ensuring effective transition.
