Melanie Durose

Deputy Headteacher / Literacy Leader

South Green Junior School, Billericay

About Me

I am the Deputy Headteacher at South Green Junior School, where I am also the Literacy Leader.  I am passionate about ensuring that all children reach their full potential and ensuring that teaching and learning practices are effective in achieving good progress in all areas of the Literacy curriculum.  In my role as Deputy Headteacher I am supporting our middle leaders to develop their roles to ensure that they have a good overview of their subject in order to improve standards.

Throughout my career I have been fortunate to have benefited from leaders and specialists, who have supported the schools that I have worked at, to develop our practice and policies.  My experiences have highlighted the huge benefits of sharing experiences, and from having support in finding solutions to areas for development.  I believe that some of the people best placed to develop outstanding practice in schools are those who understand the pressures and barriers to reaching the targets set and as a Deputy Headteacher with teaching responsibilities, I appreciate the demands that teachers are faced with, as well as the challenges that the SMT need to overcome to achieve the school priorities and targets.

During my career I have worked at different schools, ranging from a small village Church of England primary school to a two-form entry community school, as well as having led a variety of different subjects.  I also have worked collaboratively with other schools, leading Literacy based projects as well as sharing good practice in the teaching and learning of reading and writing.
