Matthew Willis

Head of Science

The Billericay School, Billericay

About Me

I have worked in the science department at Billericay School for the last 11 years. During that time I have been head of physics, second in department and for the last five years head of faculty. I began my teaching career at Philip Morant school in Colchester before moving to the Greensward school in Hockley.

After taking time out to complete a masters degree in the late 1990’s I spent five years working in the IT industry, designing and building database systems for large media companies such as eMap and Reeds.

As head of the science faculty  at Billericay School I have been focussed on the challenge of managing the significant changes we have seen to all three key stages in recent years. I have introduced a SIMS based assessment across the department so that all students data can be accessed in one place and analysed reliably. I have evaluated and updated our  approach to behaviour management to create a positive ethos driven by excellent teachers with well planned lessons.

I am interested in created faculty solutions that provide maximum benefit to students and teachers. I am aware of budgetary constraints and that “good ideas” only become reality when teachers have time and motivation to  interpret them in their own setting.
