Keely Conroy

Course Director for The Billericay Educational Consortium

The Billericay School, Billericay

About Me

I have worked as an English Teacher for over 25 years and have been employed at The Billericay School since 2000.  Throughout my teaching career, I have held various English responsibilities and was also a Teacher Governor for 4 years.  I have been an NQT mentor and ITT Lead mentor since 2006, and have a Masters in Teaching from UCL.  Throughout my career, I have lead a number of CPD training sessions for whole staff on various topics including behaviour for learning, active learning, cross-curricular writing and spelling strategies and working with trainee teachers.  In the past, I have also worked as a GCSE English examiner.  During my time at the Billericay school, I have completed two secondments to other secondary schools in Essex in an expert advisory capacity.

I have been employed as the Course Director for the Billericay Educational Consortium (BEC) since the inception of the Secondary Programme in 2014.  I currently create and lead the programme for Secondary trainees at BEC, which is rated by OFSTED as outstanding.  This involves me in every aspect of ITT, from recruitment, interviewing and marketing to tracking the performance of ex-trainees as they progress through their careers.  I lead general professional studies sessions on aspects of pedagogy, pastorally support, observe and assess trainees’ performance and grade assignments at post-graduate level 7.  I also manage the secondary programme across 22 schools, developing mentors and quality assuring processes.  This role involves regular observation in other school settings / contexts to ensure equity of the provision and has enabled me to particularly consider the impact that a shared vision and an ethos of collegiate support and continuous learning can have upon successful learning. I develop high-quality supportive and resilient teachers who have gone on to successful careers within local schools.
